We were asked by Welsh Independent Dance and Community Dance Wales to run some video workshops as part of their recent training course. Secret Carnival (formerly Secret Garden Soundsystem) have innovated, inspired and changed the face of going out forever – later this month they plan to take you backstage to the underground circus bars, boudoirs and sideshows. A colourful carnival of the night where you can get your palm read by a tarot reader, play a game of speed dating and hating, jump in the back of cini-cab-ago-go with Miss Poppy Corn, arm wrestle a gorilla and dance the night away to Balkan Gypsy DJs and the best bands on the festival circuit.

This promises to be a night of Circus, Performance, Dance, Games, and full blown festival fun with Widelode supplying a visual backdrop to the event and a jam-packed line up, this is not to be missed.

Here is a collection of our work for Sound Affairs, who have been staging innovative concerts and events for over fifteen years. They specialise in presenting new music juxtaposed with dance, theatre, video and cinema.

Cool House @ The Coal Exchange 9th June 2007. When Cool House announced their “Farewell to the Coal Exchange” we took the opportunity to pull something special out of the bag.

This project was created using only one projector. We created a template of the architectural features based on digital photographs and tweaked over the week leading up to the event. We then created animations and video sequences to fit the spaces and planes.

The listed exchange hall’s balcony and roof created a fascinating framework for us to work within.

Created as part of Sound Affairs’ Breakbeats tour. This piece was created (on a super tight deadline) from 1 super hi-res image. 5 hours of googled images were sorted, vectored, tweaked and composed – before being animated in Motion.

On Leaving And Arriving

For artist Rabab Ghazoul Widelode were asked to help with the production of her performance-installation for the G39 exhibition On Leaving And Arriving .

The piece deals with the artist’s relationship to her homeland Iraq , and is a response to the growing culture of ‘public mourning’ that, in the wake of September 11th, would seem to make visible – and therefore ‘grievable’ – certain deaths, whilst overlooking others. The artist attempts to learn a lament, a broken, faltering lament, articulating in the act’s artifice the notion that our grief is coerced and ‘learned’. The piece is also the artist’s own gesture of mourning for a homeland she herself would no longer recognize. An installation, video and sonic work, the piece housed in a shipping container in Cardiff city centre.
